“Hello Doctor Yin. Going to rebirth ah…?” An old woman passed by and saw them. Her wrinkly face immediately smiled, “It’s good to be reborn, it’s good to be reborn…”

Hearing that, Wei Mingyan stood still. “Granny, we are not going for rebirth, but return to life.”

“I know, but isn’t this still smoothly going back to the world of the living…” The old woman replied happily and looked kindly at Yin Zhuo as she continued, “Doctor, you should treat the child well. He has been following you and calling you Dad. After waiting so many years, he finally got his wish granted…”

Yin Zhuo looked at the old woman in front of him in confusion. Suddenly, he recalled an old patient who died in a car accident last year. The dead person whom he had seen before, now appeared in front of him with a smile.

This middle aged doctor’s three views were falling apart. Yet, there was still more to come.

Yin Zhuo followed Wei Mingyan, and they finally arrived at a private ward.

Yin Zhuo’s body was covered with blood, his eyes shut tight. In front of the hospital bed, his wife was holding his hand as she cried miserably.

“Sister-in-law, don’t worry, we’ll arrange surgery for the doctor…” Yin Zhuo’s colleagues were trying to comfort her, but his wife cried even more. She grasped her husband’s hand tightly, feeling like the sky was falling.

Meanwhile, Wei Mingyan, who was standing next to a shell-shocked Yin Zhuo, beckoned calmly as a child timidly approached the two. As he walked over unsteadily, Yin Zhuo noticed how this child, who looked barely a few years old, had a long blood trail on his arm, clearly left behind from an abortion procedure before he was born. Then, Wei Mingyan took the little boy’s hand, picked him up, and handed him to Yin Zhuo, who still looked dazed. “Here, your son.”

Yin Zhuo subconsciously took the child. As he carried the boy in his arms, the boy he held smiled softly, his eyes appearing timid but hopeful, as he whispered, “Dad?”

Yin Zhuo never thought that there would be a child that would call him Dad. He thought that he would never have children in his life. Clearly, this child appeared out of nowhere, but he didn’t really digest everything that was happening until that moment. The middle-aged doctor’s hand shook, and then, with more care and warmth as if he were treating a treasure so fragile it would break with the slightest pressure, he held the child’s hand.

Feeling his warmth, the child smiled pleasantly. For one so young, he has yet to know the manners of propriety, and thus he asked bravely, “Dad, would you like me to be your child?”

Yin Zhuo nodded. Unknowingly, his eyes were a little hot. He showed a careful smile as he said, “Dad would love to have you as his child.”

The little boy’s eyes glittered in joy. He then replied, “Dad, I like you too.”

“Go home quickly, you can’t stay outside for a long time.” Wei Mingyan’s attitude towards this conscious soul was much milder than that towards Yin Zhuo. He patted the child’s head again and watched him reluctantly leave one step at a time. Yin Zhuo subconsciously reached out, wanting for his child to return to his side, and reside in his arms. The warmth from holding him earlier still lingered in Yin Zhuo’s arms.

Soft, gentle, it turns out the feeling of being a father was so good.

“He is special.” Watching the child disappear, Wei Mingyan whispered, “Children usually gain consciousness after birth, but he woke up in the middle of his pregnancy. Generally, after being born, his memory of residing in his mother would disappear, but he died before he was born. When the clamp came in, he wanted to hide away, but the uterus is only so big. There was no place for him to hide, and being so young, so innocent, didn’t understand. The soul body is weak, and will only follow its original body. Then, one day, your wife set incense in prayer for him while his soul was still in the hospital. From then on, he followed your wife and called her mom.

You shouldn’t have children, but because of the kindness of both you husband and wife, this child lives smoothly. Although your wife is old, he will be very good and won’t bother her. This child will be born smoothly. He is shy, filial and deeply loves his parents. This is the reward of your kindness over these years.” Wei Mingyan said so, then he pushed Yin Zhuo forward.

“Go home, they are all waiting for you.”

Yin Zhuo’s body felt light. When he opened his eyes again, his whole body was in pain. His head felt as if it was exploding. He woke up to a violent cough as he painstakingly opened his eyes and saw his wife’s tearful face.

“Old Yin, old Yin. You’re awake! You scared me to death…” The wife cried out of breath, appearing deeply relieved after a terrible scare.

Yin Zhuo struggled to reach out and hold her cold hand. “I’m fine …”

“It’s good that you’re fine. It’s good that you’re fine…”

“Mr. Wei …”

“Who is Mr. Wei?”

“Just …” Yin Zhuo’s brain was jumbled with his recent experiences, and he had a hard time sorting them out. Those surreal words were like a dream. Maybe, it was really a dream… His throat still felt raspy, and he coughed further. As he raised his hands to close his mouth, he suddenly realized he was holding something in his hand.

“I’m holding… something… What?”

His wife opened his hand with red eyes and took it out. “It’s 200 yuan. Don’t you dislike bringing cash when you go out?”

200 yuan…

Yin Zhuo’s body relaxed as he laid back down with blood still on his face. Despite his bad headache, he smiled calmly.

“Old Yin, did you go silly? What are you smiling at? Does your head hurt?”

“No, I just want to recover sooner.” Soon. To meet their child.

“Doctor Ge’s husband, who helped you give birth, walked into the stop sign. At that time, his feet were unstable, and he tripped forward in a panic. Thankfully, I heard that her husband had woken up again, and the surgeon said it was no big problem.”

“Luckily he is okay. Doctor Ge is such a good person, and I heard her husband is also particularly good. He has worked in our hospital for such a long time, and he is distinctly reputable,” Fu Yunyun said as she leaned over Qian Miao’s bed. Her leg injury hasn’t healed, so she leaned on a crutch to come to see the child.

“Is it busy out there?” Qian Miao asked.

“It’s okay. I heard from a firefighter that was treated in our hospital that the fire initially couldn’t be extinguished. Later, no one knew how, but it suddenly calmed down, and they saved more people than expected, so the situation is good. Now that all three hospitals have split their patients, although it was pretty hectic at first, it’s all easing up.”

Just then, Fu Yunyun’s phone suddenly rang. She answered briefly, but she frowned in worry as she stood up in a hurry and headed out. “I’ll go now. Eh? Okay…”

Fu Yunyun breathed a sigh of relief as her tension relaxed again before she hung up the phone and said to Qian Miao, “My second aunt’s child hit her head. My cousin went on a business trip, and though my sister-in-law is here, she is too busy to look after her alone. I have to go to the pediatrics department to look after her.”

As Qian Miao just nodded her head in reply, Wei Jin came in with some water. “You’re going out?”

“Yes, my relative and her child are in the hospital. I’ll have to go and see them,” answered Fu Yunyun with a smile as she passed by Wei Jin. Since the door was too narrow, they inevitably bumped into each other. She didn’t take it seriously and quickly got on the elevator and went to pediatrics to find her cousin.

As she was about to arrive at the ward, a familiar figure suddenly appeared in front of her.

Bai Yumu looked deeply worried, with his eyebrows wrinkled, as he followed a girl with a child in her arms and persuaded her, “Xiao Xi, let me hold him. Your hands will get sore if you hold him for so long.” The girl’s face was sullen, and her hands were trembling slightly, either from fatigue or exhaustion. Even so, she insisted on holding the child herself as she kept walking.

Right then, Fu Yunyun just happened to come over when she saw Bai Yumu, stunned, “Eh? What a coincidence.”

Bai Yumu’s face changed slightly when he noticed her. He forced a smile as he greeted her, “Yeah. That eh… Yunyun, I have something to do here, so I’ll leave first.” He subconsciously glanced at the girl beside him as he said goodbye to Fu Yunyun.

“It’s okay, you must be busy. By the way, we don’t allow pets in our hospital. Please take this dog outside to the lobby first.”

Upon hearing that, the sullen girl’s footsteps stopped, her eyes bloodshot. She turned her head in a daze to look at the girl who was on crutches. “What did you say? What dog?”

“This dog isn’t yours?” Fu Yunyun looked hesitantly at the yellow dog who had been following the girl’s side. “I’m sorry, since the dog had been following you, I assumed it was your pet.”

The girl looked down, following Fu Yunyun’s line of sight.

The space was empty, with only the floor on the ground.
