Bai Yumu’s face contorted. He smiled stiffly and came forward to settle the matter. “Yunyun, surely you’re mistaken. How could there be any dog here? We have something to do, so we’ll go first.” As he spoke, he reached out and held the girl’s shoulder for the first time tonight, trying to lead her out of here.

Yet, the heels of this girl called Zhao Xi were as if glued to the floor, and she remained still. Her eyes were still red as she asked again, sourly and bitterly, “You said, you saw a dog following me? What color is it?”

“Can’t you see it just sitting there? It’s yellow, and it looks pretty well behaved.”

Fu Yunyun felt a bit strange. The dog was just right there, but why did the girl in front of her ask her that? She looked down at the yellow dog, who was spitting out its tongue and shaking its tail. Even from just a glance, you could tell they were family. Fu Yunyun also had a dog in her hometown that she grew up with. Seeing such a friendly dog, she couldn’t help but reach out and touch the dog’s head.

“Really good …” Fu Yunyun said this as she reached out, but the hand that should have fallen on soft fur fell short as it passed through the top of the yellow dog’s head.

“This is…” Fu Yunyun froze in shock. After a moment, she withdrew her hand and looked at the dog with a pale face. “Touch… I can’t touch it…”

She has just experienced meeting a master who was very accurate in fortune telling. Furthermore, she was scared of these kinds of paranormal events. After looking at the yellow dog and its pair of gentle eyes, she took a step back in panic.

Zhao Xi looked at the reaction of the person in front of her. With tears of excitement in her eyes, she came forward with the child in her arms, asking hopefully, “Could you really see it? Is it really with me?”

Fu Yunyun blinked again. This yellow dog, indeed, was a bit transparent. She was seeing a ghost?

“Holy crap!!!” Fu Yunyun turned and ran with her crutches. Although she hurt her leg, she wasn’t any slower than normal people. After a few moments, she was out of sight.

Zhao Xi’s tears were still swirling in her eyes. She saw the person who could see the dog run away and subconsciously started running to catch up with her, but was then pulled back by Bai Yumu.

“Yunyun is my high school classmate. She has always been a bit out of sorts. It looks like she was having a moment just now. Leave her alone, and let’s bring the baby back first.”

“She said that she saw Da Huang, and that Da Huang is following me around…”

Zhao Xi’s pretense of strength just now was gone. She wasn’t an adult yet, and even if she tried harder to maintain her composure, she still couldn’t hold back after learning the news about her beloved dog.

“How could she have seen Da Huang? Didn’t you bury Da Huang yourself?” The good-looking man advised gently, carefully holding Zhao Xi as he coaxed her, “Quanquan is still at your Aunt’s house, so let’s settle down first. The baby is still small, and you can’t afford to toss and turn him around.”

Zhao Xi’s eyes flashed hesitation at the thought of her younger brother being left in her aunt’s house. Seeing how shaken she was, Bai Yumu spoke quietly and helped the girl to go out. As they walked past the corner of the corridor, he grimaced as he glanced back to the ground that was just pointed out by Fu Yunyun. His irises flashed in fear, but he suppressed it quickly. How can there be ghosts in this world, he thought. If there were, he wouldn’t have been able to live well until now.

When the backs of two people disappeared past the corner, a man wearing a Daoist robes came up slowly with a cane. He lowered his eyes and looked at the yellow dog that was cocking its head, whimpering as it looked in the direction of Zhao Xi’s departure. The man’s long, white hand gently stroked its head. Perhaps, since it has been too long since anyone touched its head like this, the yellow dog whined and enjoyed it while squinting, rubbing its head against the man’s hand even further.

“You miss your master a lot, don’t you?” Wei Mingyan surmised while gently stroking it. Then, he reassured it, “Don’t worry. She will soon leave that man who killed you.”

“Bark Bark…” The yellow dog wagged its tail happily, its eyes full of pure joy. It reluctantly stretched out its tongue and licked Wei Mingyan’s hand before stepping away and continue following its master’s footsteps again.

Wei Mingyan stood up straight and looked at the back of the yellow dog gradually disappearing, smiling. Some dogs, whether they live or die, only had their own master in their eyes.

Some people, on the other hand, were bad from the very root of their being.

“Dad… Dad…”

Bai Yumu stood in a black fog as a boy’s clear voice called out to him. He grimaced, “What are you shouting at me for! I’m not your father!”

Nonetheless, the baby’s cries rang out endlessly. Bai Yumu was unmoved, and continued on his way. He knew it was a dream, because he had been having the same one for a whole week. Bai Yumu couldn’t see the road in front of him, but he still walked forward anyways. Furthermore, as long as he wakes up, it will all disappear.

“Dad …”

The boy’s voice sounded up close for the first time. Even though he was used to it, Bai Yumu was still startled. In the dark fog, a boy of a few years old waddled out. He was small, and his appearance was powdery, with a long blood mark on one arm. He was looking at the man in front of him with sad eyes.

Then, he said, “You are not my Dad.”

Bai Yumu quickly recovered after a brief shock. “Of course I’m not. Get out of here!”

“You’re not nice to me. You’re not my dad. My dad is nice. He likes me!” The little boy looked like he was angry, but he was angry and crying at the same time. “Why was I born to you again? I don’t want you to be my Dad. My father is a good man and I like him, not you!”

“As if I like you coming in my dreams in the first place! ” In his dream, Bai Yumu completely threw away his disguise as he snickered. He ignored the child in front of him, and continued on his way.

The little boy paused, turned his back on him, and suddenly remarked, “You’ll regret this.” He tilted his head and cried out loud. “You will regret killing me!”

“What? Can you turn into a ghost and come look for me?” Bai Yumu disdainfully glanced at the small cub in front of him, “There are no ghosts in this world, understand?”

“I’m never looking for you!!!” The little boy glared at him with hatred. “You don’t want me, and I don’t want you either! I have my parents now. They like me very much. I will be filial to my parents!”

“It’s none of my business.”

Bai Yumu felt that this dream was a little long today, and just when he thought about whether to pinch himself to see if he could wake up, the boy stopped crying. His eyes were red and his young voice was crisp. “Grandpa said, you will get what you deserve. You will get what you deserve…”

He disappeared in the black fog. Bai Yumu didn’t know why his heart felt somewhat cold as he remembered his first child.

That was the first female student he trapped. He obviously used a condom, but she still got pregnant. At that time, he was still very young, and he was just starting off his teaching career. Both were inexperienced, and it was just in time for winter break. By the time they realized it, the baby had already taken shape. As soon as they found out, Bai Yumu took the female student to abort the child. Later, he left the school where he taught with an excuse and picked a new high school.

He was good-looking, outwardly elegant, and many young girls liked him. With just the slightest hint, someone would come to his door. Bai Yumu is very much in demand, but he doesn’t want children. Furthermore, all the students he got were minors. Thus, if they ever became pregnant, things would be very troublesome. Furthermore, their parents were a major hurdle as well.

At this time, Zhao Xi appeared in his sights. So young, beautiful, and innocent. With a little temptation, he succeeded in gaining an innocent little girlfriend. Then, when Zhao Xi ended up pregnant, her parents happened to die in an accident. Soon, Bai Yumu went to Zhao Xi’s house with the idea of having her get an abortion, but when he saw the big house in the center of town that she lives in, he changed his mind instead. Bai Yumu gently coaxed Zhao Xi to let her give birth to the child. Later, this gullible woman marries him, he will own this house worth several million.

However, things didn’t go as planned. Zhao Xi refused to take the house for herself, and she wanted to share it with her younger brother, Quanquan. How funny! He couldn’t believe there were people who would throw their money out the door, it’s just silly and stupid. He was just a little kid. Isn’t it good enough for her to just raise him to adulthood? Bai Yumu advised Zhao Xi many times for this matter, but she was adamant. With the birth of the child, the differences between Zhao Xi and Bai Yumu became bigger and bigger, and they even broke up.

Being a bad person, Bai Yumu always assumed that others were bad too.

Zhao Xi was a minor, and even though she gave birth to a child with his genes, he could no longer obtain the house. If this person one day decides to give the house to her brother in the future, the child would still have to be raised by him as the father. Plus, he heard wind that the school board had almost received an anonymous tip that was intercepted by someone Bai Yumu had paid off.

Someone was watching him, and he had nowhere to escape. Above it all, that child was living proof of his actions. If that report had come through as planned, his future and career would be completely destroyed.

Thus, Bai Yumu got the idea to kill his own child. Funny enough, he didn’t really feel guilty in doing so, but felt annoyed and troubled instead. However, once he carried out his perfect plan, no one would find out.

—“You will get what you deserve …”

The little boy’s words seemed to echo in his ears again. Bai Yumu only sneered.

There wouldn’t be ghosts in the world, and of course, there wouldn’t be any retribution. If there was retribution, he would have died miserably over 10 years ago.

Original Author’s Note:

I’m afraid some readers don’t understand, so I came back to explain:

Bai Yumu is a teacher. He likes to pursue young and beautiful female students, but all the students he snatched up were minors. A few years ago, one of his students got pregnant, and Bai Yumu took her to get an abortion. The child was pulled out with pliers and then burned. The soul of the child has been following the doctor and his wife in the previous chapter, because they want children and this child wants to love his parents.

The baby, who was almost burned to death, was precisely Bai Yumu’s second, who was born by Zhao Xi, a minor. At that time, her parents just died and she was helpless. Bai Yumu was targeting her family’s property. As a result, when she saw that Zhao Xi insisted on sharing the property with her brother, and he was reported, he simply planned to burn the child. As for why he killed without any burden in his heart, it’s in the following chapter!
