Chapter 93:《Hide and Seek》Premiere (2)

"Mr. Ross, you're here too." Angela looked a little surprised at the man in front of her, then looked around and asked, "Mr. Winston Groom didn't come?"

"He certainly wouldn't come. Last time he insisted on his own opinion about the script. Without you to mediate, it seems we always end up arguing over some trivial detail." Eric Ross shrugged and then greeted Julia, "Hey, Julia."

"Hello, Eric. Are you discussing a script?" Julia looked at Angela and then back at him.

"Of course, do you think we would discuss the color of clothes?" Eric spread his hands jokingly.

"It sounds like this time it's not just Angela's independent creation, but rather her involvement in the adaptation, is that right?" her big sister thought for a few seconds before asking.

"Bingo! That's right, dear sister. I participated in the adaptation of《Forrest Gump》this time," Angela said proudly. Angela said proudly, not realizing what a great movie it would be. Julia and Eric, on the other hand, just found it a little exciting as they smiled at each other without saying much.

Then Julia furrowed her brow, as if she remembered something. After hesitating for a moment, she asked, "Angie, I remember...《Forrest Gump》is a... political satire novel?"

"Yes." Angela nodded. She certainly knew what Julia was going to ask, so even before the question came out, she spat out all the excuses she had prepared long ago. It was all about how she had read《Forrest Gump》and found it very interesting, even though she didn't understand politics, she wanted to write a fairy tale or something like that. She had said this before at Paramount, and now she could repeat it backwards without any problem.

"Oh, it's hard to imagine, Angela, that you would actually be involved in writing such a screenplay." Julia didn't know what to say after hearing the girl's explanation, so she just shrugged helplessly.

"Actually, I just make some suggestions, occasionally share inspirations or let them take a break when they're arguing, like Mr. Eric said, I'm just a lubricant," Angela said, raising her eyebrows at Eric.

"Oh, being a lubricant is just one of the points. In fact, many of Angela's ideas are very interesting, and they happen to resonate with either myself or Mr. Winston. Without them, we might really argue endlessly." Eric hastened to explain.

"What Eric means is that I am not only a lubricant but also a potent lubricant," Angela interjected solemnly, making Julia burst into laughter.

They chatted for a few more minutes before the premiere finally began. After the Warner executive's speech, a thin, middle-aged man named Clarke Ward, whether he was the general manager or the chairman, Angela didn't know, gave his speech. The only people she recognized from Warner were Paul Tucker and a couple of his assistants.

After the formalities were over, the cocktail party was over. The guests then entered the hotel theater one by one and took their seats to prepare for the movie. Angela's seat was good, not too far, not too close, just right. And Sparrow sat to her right, but unfortunately Julia and Al were far away from her. But on the other side there was...

"Hi, Angela, nice to see you." The blue eyes looked at her with a smile.

And the girl looked at the other person with a complex mood, sighing inwardly, then replied, "I'm very happy to see you too, Jodie. Why didn't I see you in the lobby earlier?"

"I saw you, but I saw you talking happily with Julia, so I didn't want to disturb you." Jodie smiled as usual. "You seem to have something unpleasant on your mind. Did you have a problem with your friend?"

She emphasized the word "friend" to hint at something. Angela opened her mouth but didn't say anything. If it was about what happened after she was... neither Jessica nor Lindsay had contacted her since then.

She didn't know what to do. Should she bury her head in the sand like an ostrich? But they didn't call or write. This made the girl very unhappy. After all, they were the ones who created this situation. Couldn't they apologize, even if it was just for show?

"I seem to have hit the nail on the head." Seeing that Angela was not responding, Jodie said confidently.

"I really didn't mean to." Angela replied with some uncertainty, silently cursing, "It's because of you that I'm reminded of all this!" The two people who gave her the most headaches were Michael Mann and Jodie Foster.

Michael Mann was okay, he was just interested in her personality and ideas. Not many people had his level of insight. But Jodie was different. On the one hand, she was grateful to Jodie for waking her up and making her stop avoiding herself for no reason. But on the other hand, Jodie's presence constantly reminded her that she was destined to play the role of a small, submissive character, which was really frustrating.

"Maybe you have problems with your friends, too." Angela couldn't help but retort.

"No, at least I don't have any suitable friends right now, so I don't have that kind of problem." Jodie said with a smile, gently stroking Angela's cheek, "If only you were ten years older."

This statement made Angela's neck shrink involuntarily. Did she... like her? Fortunately, at that moment, the lights dimmed around them and the movie was about to start. The girl pretended to sit properly, her eyes fixed on the big screen, no longer looking at Jodie.

After the Warner Bros. logo appeared, the movie officially began. Angela focused her full attention on it. Although the original《Hide and Seek》movie scenes were already quite vague in her memory, she quickly began to recall them as the movie progressed.

The comparison was very interesting. Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, herself and Dakota Fanning, who was better? Angela couldn't say for sure, but compared to Robert's overly reserved and calm demeanor in her memory, Al seemed more expressive. For example, when he learned of his wife's death, Al's intense grief was very sympathetic, and when he moved to the small town, he occasionally wiped the family photos off the walls to convey his love for his wife. It also better hid his transformation.

Of course, this couldn't determine who had the better acting skills between the two. After all, the version of《Hide and Seek》she remembers was shot after 2000, with different directors and revised scripts. Also, both were experienced actors, which made it difficult to compare.

As for herself and Dakota, although her modesty made her reluctant to judge, Angela actually believed that she was at least two steps better than Dakota. After all, she had written the script herself and had read many reviews from her former life. She had a much deeper understanding of the character than Dakota, and most importantly, she could still remember the feeling of being completely immersed in the role when she was in Woodland Town due to inner conflicts. The effect of such a performance was imaginable.

Do you remember the scene she changed? When Scarlett, played by another little girl, came to visit her at home, she deliberately broke her doll and chased her away. Angela changed the original action of suddenly pushing the doll out of the way to placing the doll next to her face. This was a very challenging shot that required the full expression of the character to create the atmosphere.

After shooting this scene, Angela was in a daze because of the conflict that had been triggered. It was only with the comfort of Al and Jodie that she relaxed. So she wasn't sure how the effect turned out, but David, the director, didn't ask for a reshoot. So when she saw that scene in the movie, she couldn't help but be startled. The eerie expression and the broken doll's face complemented each other, giving a sense of inexplicable impact. Especially the emotions flashing in her green eyes- warning, confusion, nervousness, doubt, and more- all seemed to be speaking. In just a few seconds, she made the people around her gasp.

Of course, David deserved credit for achieving such an effect. He was a very skilled storyteller, and Angela's earlier advice to mislead the audience while ensuring the logical transformation of the father was well understood. It was precisely because he had previously created a thoroughly eerie atmosphere that Angela's shot had such a shocking effect.

As for the overall story, although David was a newcomer to directing, he had accumulated enough skills to control the movie. The series of traps in the plot were presented even more discreetly than before, with one trap nested within another, leading the audience to suspect the original homeowner, then the sheriff, then the husband of the neighbor's family.

With each suspicion, the father became more anxious, and then changes occurred, all with the help of these foreshadowings. When the mentally split father finally showed his fangs, the audience realized they had been tricked.

As for the ending, Angela still had two options: to be adopted by the psychologist or to be sent to the hospital. Although both endings were filmed, the one where she goes to the hospital is the one currently shown, as leaving a glimmer of hope is more in line with the audience's taste - even though the girl herself preferred the adoption ending.

Finally, the movie ended. After the credits rolled, the lights in the theater were turned on. The audience, accustomed to the darkness, blinked their eyes for a moment, creating a few seconds of silence in the hall. Then applause broke out. It began sparingly and gradually grew louder until the entire theater was clapping. Despite the lack of depth in the movie, David's filmmaking techniques and storytelling skills were excellent and kept everyone enthralled. Al and Angela's performances were also outstanding, leaving the audience no choice but to applaud.

"Angie, I'm jealous of you right now." Jodie leaned over and said with a smile as she clapped.

"This applause is for you too." Angela shrugged.

"It's different, dear. I'm just a supporting character, you know. This is actually a two-person movie." Jodie smiled and stopped talking.

A two-person movie? Yes, of course. Angela shrugged again amidst the applause. Honestly, it felt great!
